Since the Catalan Federation of Sports for People with Cerebral Palsy (FECPC) presented the Wheelchair Slalom project looking for alliances, the Institute for the Social Research of Italy (IRS) was in as a partner to proportionate the investigation, evaluation and monitoring of the project.
The main goal of the WSlalom project cofounded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union is to promote the social inclusion of children and young people with physical disabilities from 6 to 18 years old, promoting "wheelchair slalom" as a sport capable of improving physical abilities and producing psychological benefits. Developing a training and awareness program to promote wheelchair slalom among sports organizations and other stakeholders working with the target group, we would activate a pilot action in project partners of sports organizations in Spain, Austria, Croatia and Portugal. The IRS has the task of designing a social impact plan with the objective of revealing the individual and community social changes to which the program has contributed. One of the task of the Erasmus Programme to develop the Wheelchair Slalom around Europe was to release a new book of rules specially designed for those who want to practice wheelchair slalom under 10 years old and under 18. After weeks of work considering all the variables and consulting with experts with years of experience in the sport, the project partners created the Promotion Adapted Wheelchair Slalom Rules For U10 & U18.
