Lisbon hosted the Final Conference of the Wheelchair Slalom Erasmus+ Programme co-funded by the European Union last week, 3rd of December. All the partners, FECPC (Catalonia), PCAND (Paralisia Cerebral Associação Nacional de Desporto - Portugal), ÖBSV (Austrian Sports Federation of the Disabled - Austria), HPO (Croatian Paralympic Committee - Croatia) and IRS (Institute for Social Research - Italy), met together to share the conclusions and experiences after two years of work and development of Wheelchair Slalom in their countries. Final Conference In the afternoon the Catalan Sports Federation for Cerebral Palsy (FECPC), as project leader, opened the conference summarizing all the work done by all the partners during the two years of the project. The conclusions are very positive, as a first step to continue growing WSlalom in Europe. Then, all the partners share their experiences and video resumes about their work, with special mention for the testimony of Duarte Neto, from Portugal. Neto explained to the public how important the Wheelchair Slalom has been for him to improve his wheelchair and social skills. The sport as a motor to live better. Csilla Mónika Bus, from B-Link, a company that is working together with the partners to develop the W-Slalom Erasmus+ Programme, made a presentation about all the co-funded options the European Union is offering to the associations to develop their projects. I addition, Joana Pinho introduced a new Erasmus+ Programme about Sport Inclusion Didactics Handbook. After two years working together developing the W-Slalom among the young with disabilities in Europe, the Wheelchair Slalom Project co-funded by the Erasmus Programme of the European Union, arrives to an end. The final conference, 3rd of December in the IPDJ Auditorium (Lisbon), will close a succesful partnership between the FECPC (Catalonia), PCAND (Portugal), HPO (Croatia), ÖBSV (Austria) and IRS (Italy). During the Final conference, all the partners will expose their WSlalom pilot experiences in the European Countries and show a video resume of the project. Two years of hard work developing the Wheelchair Slalom in Croatia being a partner of the Erasmus Plus Programme of the European Union resumed in this video made by the Croatian Paralympic Committee (HPO). The PCAND (Paralisia Cerebral, Associação Nacional de Desporto) of Portugal is organizing the CPISRA Multi-Sports Development Games. The competition will be held on Portimão from 2nd to 6th of October and Wheelchair Slalom will be one of the three developing sports practiced in the Games, together with Boccia and Race Running.
The organization of the games is looking to provide a development and education experience to introduce, encourage and grow participation in race running and wheelchair slalom and, simultaneously, to enhance competitive opportunities and pathways. PCAND is one of the partners of the Wheelchair Slalom project co-founded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. ![]() Photo: Daniel Kudernatsch The Erasmus Project of the European Union made an exhibition in the 8th European Youth Games for the Disabled in Brno, Czech Republic with the participation of Austrian and Czech athletes.
The inclusion of the WSlalom inside the Emil Open Games of Brno was a milestone and a great opportunity to publicize the sport and keep growing together. About 15th athletes of Austria and Czech Republic had the chance to practice and enjoy with Wheelchair Slalom in a public square. For the Czechs it was the first touch with the sport, since they are not members of the Erasmus project. Activities like the exhibition in the Emil Games is one of the aims of the project. 5 partners from Catalonia (FECPC), Austria (ÖBSV), Croatia (HPO), Portugal (PCAND) and Italy (IRS) are working to develop Wheelchair Slalom around Europe for one year and a half with the support of the UE. Now we enter on the final stage of the project, producing video resumes of all the process.
